Data Architect | Data Scientist

Name:Kevin Ong
Date of birth:

I am a senior software, data and ML engineer and independent Databricks consultant and have taught at the tertiary level for more than a decade. At Qsic, I helped to modernise the data engineering tech stack and help to build out our data engineering and machine learning capabilities by moving away from traditional RDBMS and data warehousing to Databricks' data lakehouse architecture.

At RedBubble, I helped to discover search trends and implement personalised recommendations using content-based filtering and to ensure that the new implementations provided uplift in terms of conversions using A/B testing.

At the University of Melbourne, I led a data and software engineering team to create Find an Expert search engine by implementing the architecture for data storage, transformation (using NLP techniques), delivery and monitoring which includes information retrieval, data ingestion, analysis, and indexation for the Elasticsearch search engine.

My previous roles also include data governance, data analytics, and consultation for web application designs and implementations. I have also previously delivered a pilot SMS reminder system for cancer patients for Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute and published a research paper. I also built a search engine for an Australian fintech startup - Listcorp.
